Chiropractic Care Reimbursement
Coverage by Swiss basic health insurance
Chiropractic services are mandatorily covered by Swiss basic health insurance (LAMal).
Patients can consult a chiropractor directly, without needing a referral from another doctor, and the costs are covered by their health insurance provider.
⚠️ This coverage applies under the usual conditions of your insurance: deductible, cost-sharing, and any specific rules linked to an alternative insurance model you may have chosen (such as family doctor, healthcare network or telemedicine).
These models often require a preliminary step (such as contacting your designated doctor or the Telmed service), as outlined below.
Alternative Insurance Models (“Family Doctor”, “Telmed”, etc.)
If you are enrolled in an alternative insurance model (family doctor, healthcare network or telemedicine), you must follow the rules set out in your contract.
This usually means contacting your designated doctor or telemedicine service before seeing a chiropractor.
Partnership with Telemedicine Provider (Medgate)
ChiroSuisse, the national association to which ChiroGenève belongs, has established a partnership with the telemedicine provider Medgate to improve care coordination within alternative insurance models.
If your insurance is partnered with Medgate, you may be referred to a chiropractor after an initial consultation with Medgate, in accordance with your insurance model’s requirements.
A comprehensive and unique university programme
Chiropractic studies are integrated into the human medicine programme at the University of Zurich. Students undergo a rigorous six-year education combining medical theory with specialised practical training.
Practice-oriented training
From the first year, students benefit from practical courses in small groups. Manual techniques, as well as radiology, are explored in greater depth during the 5th and 6th years.
A balanced and people-focused medical career
After obtaining the federal diploma, a 2 to 2.5-year assistantship allows for further clinical experience.
Working hours are stable, with no night shifts, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.
